BOOKSTORES & BOOK CLUBS
Let’s get together.
For booksellers
Independent bookstores are part of the community. They’re more than a store; they’re a place where people gather to find other people who love the same kind of books. And they’re not always about the bestsellers. They can be about a niche someone is filling. Whenever I travel, I find a list of the independent bookstores and go.
Later-in-life romance is one of those niches. As one bookseller told me, someone had just been in the day before asking for exactly that.

IN THE STORE
What a signing looks like
A table with a nice tablecloth, my books on display, a little bowl of candy, bookmarks, and a poster of the covers. I always stand, because it’s easier to talk to people, and before long they’re telling me their stories. There was the young man who buys his mother a book from Rehoboth Beach every Christmas, shopping for it in June. And three sisters in sequined “Sister Weekend” sweatshirts, on the trip they take together every year. Little conversations like that are my favorite part.

FOR BOOK CLUBS
An author at your table.
I’d love to pull up a chair at your table. I join book clubs anywhere on Zoom, and in person around the Washington, DC area. Farther away? Ask, and I’ll see what’s possible.
Download the Wedding Plans book club guide (PDF): a conversation with me, warm-up questions, fourteen discussion questions and ideas for hosting a Savvy evening.
Make it a Savvy evening. Pour what the Savvys pour. My husband, Joel, chose these for the Savvys’ Wine and Book Club:
Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon (Duckhorn, California)
Barbera d’Asti TreVigne (Piedmont, Italy)
Rocca del Principe Fiano di Avellino (Campania, Italy)
Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand)
Dogfish Head Pale Ale (Milton, Delaware) for the beer drinkers
Add a taste of Rehoboth: Grotto Pizza on the first night, hot chocolate at Victoria’s on the boardwalk. Tell me what your club pours; I’d love to hear.
Ready to invite me? The form is just below.
